Dr. Xuetao Cao is the President of the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (CAMS), Beijing, China. He has been Professor and Director of China’s National Key Laboratory of Medical Immunology since 2006 and was elected to the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2005. He is also the President of the Chinese Society for Immunology, President of the Federation of Immunological Societies of Asia-Oceania (FIMSA) and Chair-elect of Global Alliance of Chronic Diseases (GACD).
His major research interests include innate signaling and immune regulation, immunobiology of antigen-presenting cells, tumor immunology and immunotherapy. His group has identified several important mediators and regulators of TLR/RIG-I-triggered proinflammatory cytokine and type I interferon production, and independently identified and functionally characterized 22 novel genes from a human dendritic cell cDNA screen. His group has also identified a new regulatory dendritic cell (DC) subset and demonstrated that splenic stroma could drive mature DC to differentiate into regulatory DC. His group has proposed several approaches for DC-based immunotherapy in cancer. As corresponding author, he published more than 200 original papers in peer-reviewed, SCI-cited journals including Cell, Cancer Cell, Nature Immunology, Immunity, J Exp Med, PNAS, Nature Communications, Blood, Cancer Research etc.
